Today, the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) in partnership with the two biggest funders of cancer research in the USA - the US National Cancer Institute and the Congressionally-directed Medical Research Programs of the US Department of Defense - launches a comprehensive web-based database of cancer research:- The International Cancer Research Portfolio (ICRP) http://www.cancerportfolio.org/ ICRP contains details of 13,000 current research awards including the research portfolios of the 15 NCRI Member organisations and the two US organisations. In addition to providing information on researchers, grant details and research abstracts, every research project has been coded using internationally-recognised classification systems which enables the database to be searched in a standardised way for type of cancer and type of research being carried out. These structured searches are complemented with extensive text searches. Results can be emailed or downloaded in multiple formats. ICRP is an up-to-date resource for those in the cancer research community planning their future research and identifying collaborators. It is also a tool for funding organisations managing their research portfolios and a source of information for the wider community interested in cancer research. ICRP is designed to be a database of ongoing research which will be regularly updated. The database currently contains grants active on 1st January 2003 that were awarded by NCRI member organisations prior to April 2002. All grants awarded between April 2002 and April 2003 will be added to ICRP in August 2003 |
