EQIA Tool "The Easy Way to EQIA"

A challenging aspect of the implementation of Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act relates to the undertaking of Equality Impact Assessments (EQIAs). Whilst the Equality Commission has published fairly detailed guidance on EQIAs, this document is intended to serve as a practical tool for public servants who may be required to carry out these assessments.

The document uses a case study approach. Each stage of the EQIA process is described – based on Equality Commission guidance – and key Must Dos and Should Dos are also included. The document uses the annotated learning style, which focuses on the ‘how to’ of carrying out an EQIA. Annotations in text boxes are intended to provide clarification, advice and best practice tips.

“The Easy Way to EQIA” was produced by:

Greg Irwin and Anne Basten – Equality Unit at the Central Services Agency

Frances Rolston-Bruce and Dympna Stewart – Western Equality and Human Rights Team, Westcare.
