RSS Capital Projects Directorate has responsibility for the procurement of all equipment relating to capital schemes (both “new-build” and refurbishments) as well as the central procurement of diagnostic imaging equipment.

The team has a wealth of experience gained over numerous schemes some of which include:

Belfast City Hospital Tower Block (600 bed major acute teaching hospital, equipment total £6m at 1985)
Eastern Health Board Headquarters (equipment total £2m at 1989)
Mater Hospital extension (equipment total £5m at 1990)
Antrim Hospital (350 bed acute hospital, equipment total £8.5m at 1993)
Antrim & Causeway Hospital Laboratories and Antrim Hospital Renal Unit (equipment total £1.25m at 1994)
NI Blood Transfusion Headquarters (equipment total £1.2m at 1995)
GP clinics in Russia for NICARE (equipment total £300k at 1996)
RBHSC Phase 1 (equipment total £3m)
Causeway Hospital (equipment total £8m)
Mater Hospital Re-development Phase 1 (equipment total £2m)
Altnagelvin Re-development Phase 1 (equipment total £3m)
New Hospital Isle of Man (equipment total £13m).

The Diagnostic Imaging Team was established in March 1992 as the result of a NI Audit Office and P.A.C. review of the purchase of radiological equipment in NI. The review made a number of recommendations and these were implemented when the special team was set up. The team has the responsibility for assisting users with the specification of their requirements, the co-ordination and the eventual placing of orders for the supply, delivery, installation and commissioning of major items of diagnostic equipment in Northern Ireland.

Since the team was established, it has been involved in the acquisition of a wide range of equipment and has to date placed orders to a value in excess of £30m which include:
